See the detailed guide: Magic. Magic is used through a magic grimoire (usually kept in the backpack). Essences are obtained by using skills, especially on creatures.
Best kept on your belt. Quick activation — Shift + E.
With a sword in hand, enable combat with 1:
- LMB — targeted strike;
- RMB — area strike;
- Hold RMB — charged strike.
How It Works
- For every melee weapon, there is an individual parry chance;
- Parrying can trigger only when the weapon is not on attack cooldown — its icon has no circular cooldown indicator;
- If parrying triggers and the incoming damage is ≤ 36, the blow is completely negated (no damage gets through);
- A separate parry cooldown of 3.5 seconds is applied to this weapon.
What Determines the Chance
- Weapon type — light blades parry less often, while longswords and shields (if available) are more reliable;
- Traits — for example, Poor Fighter reduces the parry chance;
- Grip and weapon compatibility — some types cannot parry when used incorrectly (for example, a two-handed weapon held in one hand).
When Parrying Fails
- The weapon is on attack cooldown (the cooldown "circle" is visible);
- The parry cooldown has not ended;
- The blow deals more than 36 damage — it goes through as usual;
- The percentage-based parry chance did not trigger.
Tip: alternate short series of attacks with pauses — wait for a moment when the weapon is off cooldown so you can "catch" an enemy blow with a parry.
- Bows and crossbows require arrows or bolts;
- To load one, hold an arrow in one hand and the bow in the other, then click the bow with the arrow;
- Aim and fire with LMB.
Durability represents weapon wear. It affects damage and, indirectly, parrying reliability.
Conditions
- Perfect — damage is at its maximum;
- Slightly scratched — damage is close to its base value;
- Damage is visible — damage is noticeably lower;
- In terrible condition — damage drops sharply and the risk of breakage is high;
- About to break — the next unlucky strike may finish the weapon off.
How Durability Is Lost
- Combat and any frequent contact with armor and flesh;
- Work against hard targets — doors, walls, and rocks wear a weapon down much faster;
- Negative effects or curses (if the mechanics of the specific item include them).
How to Obtain Different Conditions
- Natural wear in combat moves a weapon down the scale;
- Striking doors, walls, or rocks quickly pushes its condition down several levels at once;
- Some items are already worn when found as loot.
How to Restore It
- Whetstone — whether consumable or stationary — partially restores durability;
- The Whetter trait improves restoration with a whetstone.
- Languages (L) — language selection menu. Speakers of other languages will not understand you;
- Doors and keys — keep a key in the key slot; take it in hand and click the door;
- Faction menu (in the left column when starting as a faction member): Ranks, Groups (alpha / beta / gamma / omega), Diplomacy.
