A blacksmith's journeyman is the backbone of any smithing operation.
You took a job helping a blacksmith. Perhaps your family forced you into it so that you would become wealthy. Or perhaps you spent your whole childhood studying so that the blacksmith would take you on. Then again, you may simply be a dependent working for a handful of jingling coins.
Your task is to do everything the blacksmith orders: help forge equipment, mine ore, gather charcoal, and obtain other materials needed for the work. You should learn from your superior, even if they make no effort to teach you.
If the blacksmith dies or turns out to be a completely inexperienced hired hand, you may take their place and run the smithing operation. In other circumstances, however, you will most likely spend most of your time gathering resources.
My partner was crushed in the mine, so today I'll eat for two.
A blacksmith's journeyman is a valuable worker and the main supplier of resources, especially early on. Without journeymen, the enterprise will not last long. For this reason, competent blacksmiths respect their subordinates and help them learn the craft.
